Big update landed in Hermes Agent today: much better control over your session history.

You can now prune or archive sessions using a wide range of filters instead of just nuking everything or keeping it all. This is especially useful when you’re running multiple projects, switching contexts often, or just want to keep the DB lean without losing important threads.

What you can filter on

  • Timeframes (e.g., older than X days)
  • Models used in the session
  • Specific users
  • Working directory the session was started in
  • And several other metadata fields

Just run hermes update to pull the latest, then use the new pruning commands. Full details are in the docs here: https://hermes-agent.nousresearch.com/docs/user-guide/sessions#prune-old-sessions

Why this matters

Session data grows fast when you’re experimenting with agents daily. Being able to surgically remove noise (while keeping high-signal conversations queryable via session_search) makes the whole system feel more production-ready.

Archiving is also an option if you want to keep the data but move it out of the active index until you need it again.

This is the kind of quality-of-life improvement that makes Hermes feel less like a toy and more like a serious daily driver for agent work.
